Thanks for Rolling Your Own!
The Super High Me free screening program is now closed.
On 4/20, Super High Me rolled out at 1,076 grassroots screening events in over 850 cities across the country. With just the support of fans, the Super High Me launch was the widest single-day opening for a documentary, ever (Fahrenheit 9/11 opened at 868 theaters). No multi-million dollar budget, no multiplex. Just folks like you. That’s right, you.
You can still own your The full length Super High Me DVD is now on sale in our store. Purchase your copy today by clicking here.
How did it work?
Interested in understanding our Roll Your Own Screening program? It’s actually quite simple. All screenings are done with a DVD. All you need is:
- A place. Any dark room will do.
- A projector. The one you use at the office is perfect.
- A DVD player.
- A sound system.
Plug the DVD player into the projecter and sound system. Instant theater. Of course, if you don’t have access to a projector, your widescreen TV will do just fine. And if you have access to a real movie theater, it can show DVDs as well.
The goal is to get creative here. And so far, folks have. 4/20 screenings ranged from:
- Over 50 university screenings (eg, this one at the University of CO, Boulder for 500 students)
- Several dozen NORML-sponsored screenings (eg, this one sponsored by the U of Missouri NORML)
- Numerous comedy clubs (eg, the world-famous Chicago Lakeshore Theater)
- Several film festivals (eg, our friends at Cinevegas who screened SHM outdoors on the side of a building at the Beauty Bar)
- Numerous movie theaters, including our friends at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, complete with an in-theater joint-rolling contest
- A mobile guerilla drive-in screening in SF, CA from the folks at MobMov
- And our favorite, a couple in Beecher, IL who showed SHM at their 4/20 wedding

The fine print:
- Yes, it’s free. That means you don’t have to pay a fee to screen the movie. You only have to cover a nominal shipping and handling charge for us to send your DVD.
- Free means free for everyone. You may not charge admission to your event. You may sell concessions, etc, but it is not ok to charge at the door.
- The start date for screenings is 4/20. No screenings may be scheduled prior to 4/20.
- Screenings are limited to the US and Canada. If you are overseas and want to see the movie, sign up for our mailing list, and we’ll let you know as soon as the details are available.
If you have already signed up, you can log in to administer your event here.
